Speech Pathologist

RDHS provides services on behalf of the Murray/Western Primary Health Network aimed at improving the health status of communities through improved access to health care and preventative health programs. Primary Care services use a range of flexible service delivery models including individual and group consultation, health promotion and education to address the health needs of each community. Services are provided in a variety of locations, including schools and pre-schools, community health centres, hospitals and aged care facilities, community venues and clients homes. Clients of all ages can access the service.


  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) or equivalent;
  • Eligible for membership of Speech Pathology Australia;
  • Broad clinical background;
  • Sound knowledge of Community Health Services;
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Current driver’s licence


  • Experience in rural health care
  • Membership of appropriate professional association
  • Experience working with indigenous and diverse cultures
  • An ability to facilitate exchange of ideas and development of relationships across cultural, service, sectoral and organisational boundaries
  • Experience in community work, including well developed facilitation, interpersonal, problem solving, negotiation and resolution skills



·         Comply with regulatory requirements of relevance including RDHS policies and procedures/guidelines.

·         Support systems that provide safe, high quality care that increases patient experience and patient centred care.

·         To comply with RDHS Employee Code of Conduct.

·         To ensure that RDHS Infection Control guidelines are fully implemented

·         Demonstrate awareness and understanding of diversity and culture.

·         RDHS has a responsibility to maintain current policy; it is the responsibility of all staff to be aware of current policy.


·         To provide both formal and informal assessments and a range of interventions for clients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

·         To provide outreach services using varying service delivery models including individual and group therapy working in schools in NSW, community health centres, and hospitals including acute and aged care.

·         To provide training to community members and staff.

·         To provide direction and support to other members of the speech pathology team as required.

·         To promote evidence based practice and research at every opportunity.

·         Ability to determine priorities organise workloads and meet deadlines.

·         Working with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team to achieve best possible client outcomes

·         Work collaboratively with service providers, key organisations, community groups and consumers to develop and improve primary health care services

·         To implement flexible, innovative and holistic services to meet community needs

·         Actively participate in professional development including attendance at seminars and other learning and development opportunities.

·         Keep up to date with developments, legislation and regulations relevant to the requirements of the position.

·         Conduct other duties as directed.


The RDHS speech team is made up of three Speech Pathologists and an Allied Health Assistant.  This position in primarily working with primary school aged children with a focus on the first 2000 days of life. You are supported in the schools by Learning and Support Teachers, Learning and Support Officers and Aboriginal Liaison Officers, and by the RDHS speech team.  

We are currently seeking a Speech Pathologist to join our bright, dynamic multidisciplinary Allied Health team. This is a great opportunity to extend your skills, fast track your Speech Pathology career.  We will consider a graduate and can provide support for your transition to practice.

You will work with clients of all ages and while based in Victoria, you will be required to attend outreach services to to nearby NSW schools in Balranald, Dareton, Buronga, Gol Gol and Wentworth. The majority of this position will be school-based, however also includes clinic-based clients and aged care clients.

This position would ideally suit someone living in the Sunraysia area. 

Wage would depend on qualifications and experience as per the Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Health Sector) Single Interest Enterprise Agreement, with salary packaging available.  Temporary Accommodation can also be provided.
